2027 ICN CONGRESS SECURED:NURSING LEADERS DELIVER KEY POLICY PROPOSALS TO THE PRESIDENT

On July 25, President Mei-Nan Liao of the Taiwan Nurses Association (TWNA) and the President of the Taiwan Union of Nurses Association (TUNA) led a delegation to the Office of the President to present Taiwan’s major international nursing achievements and key policy recommendations. President Liao announced that TWNA has successfully secured the hosting rights for the 2027 ICN Congress—the world’s largest nursing event—expected to attract 6,000 to 8,000 participants from over 140 countries, bringing significant international, economic, and professional impact. The delegation called for full government support through cross-ministerial coordination in areas such as funding, visa facilitation, diplomatic reception, and venue resources.

Policy appeals included strengthening the development and recruitment of senior nursing faculty, institutionalizing advanced nursing roles, establishing fair salary standards for nurses, and legislating nurse-to-patient ratios for shift work. In response, the President acknowledged the importance of the proposals and expressed openness to continued collaboration with the nursing community in advancing related policies and supporting preparations for the 2027 ICN Congress.
