Healthcare institutions face a growing challenge in providing quality care while maintaining cost-effectiveness. To meet these demands, clinical nurse specialists (CNS) plays a central role. To explore more about CNS, in 2021 the Taiwan Nurses Association (TWNA) authorized a research team to implement a-year project on “Current situation, development and future perspectives of Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)”. The project was to explore the long-standing "education-job mismatch" problem from five different perspectives of education, examination, training, employment and nursing association and the purposes were to:
- Understand the current situation of CNS in Taiwan and abroad including definition, qualification, role, scope of practice, education/training, certification, remuneration and clinical outcome and further make a comparison.
- Understand the CNS curriculum in the postgraduate program and graduate students’ employment status in Taiwan.
- Understand the role, core competency and scope of practice of CNS in Taiwan and propose a policy recommendation for improvement and implementation.
- Find out the barriers and facilitators of developing CNS system.
- Propose the policy recommendation for implementing the CNS certification.
