    Brief Introduction

Taiwan Nurses Association (TWNA) was founded in 1914 and joined the ICN in 1922. It is the largest nursing academic organization in Taiwan with more than 76,000 members.

The aims are to promote professional nursing services, improve nursing-related academic research, upgrade standards of nursing education, enhance the health of all citizens, and the association’s international status. It helps boost the nursing profession by conducting seminars, workshops, conferences and certification, and publishing two high-quality journals “Journal of Nursing Research (JNR)” and “The Journal of Nursing (JN)”. It endeavors to advocate for evidence-based policy for enhancing nursing impact.

TWNA has long been an active and supportive NNA of the ICN, and fully committed to ICN’s mission, vision, and goals. TWNA supports ICN’s projects, activities and campaigns such as Nursing Now, GNLI, LFC, Girl Child Education Fund and Congress, etc. For example, TWNA co-hosted the ICN 23rd Congress in 2005, which attracted over 4, 000 participants from 148 countries. It also worked with the ICN for the Asia Workforce Forum (AWFF). Under the endorsement of ICN, TWNA held the 2020 Taiwan International Nursing Conference (TWINC). Since 1997, with the generous support of the NNAs, TWNA’s candidates were elected as ICN Board Members and Vice-Presidents serving as the agent of CNR and actively engaging in ICN.

To fulfill the international responsibility, TWNA implemented the International Nursing Leaders Training Program for more than 80 nurse leaders from 28 developing countries since 2003. As of year 2024, TWNA have conducted 5 cohorts of LFC program. 108 nurse leaders (81 from Taiwan and 27 from Indonesia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Mexico, Mongolia, Philippines, Saint Lucia, Argentina, Cambodia, and Paraguay) have completed the LFC training in Taipei.

On the current basis, TWNA will better capitalize on its resource and together with the rest of the world continue to fulfil its social responsibility and strengthen professional impact.
